THE AMOS N' ANDY SHOW CBS. 1951-53. One of the most beloved shows in the history of television. The show had wit. pathos and humor like no other. It was the first all black TV series. It's success led to it's demise as the NAACP decided it was derogatory to black and CBS shelved it, thus keeping it unavailable for years from the black and the white viewers who truly loved the characters. Amos N' Andy started on radio in 1928, it was created and played on the radio by Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll (white) who always treated their characters with dignity whoever their use of dialect humor caused much controversy among African-Americans in the beginning. It was so popular in the 1930's that many theater stopped the movie and aired the 15 minute radio show to keep attendance up. Presenting four classic shows including the classic "Christmas Story" with Amos famous interpretation of the Lord's Prayer. Cousin Effie's Will The Kingfish adopts Andy so that he will become eligible for a $2000 bequest under the terms of Cousin Effie's will. The Convention In Chicago, the Kingfish gets a sample of the con game from his wife Sapphire who gets them to turn over their money to her, using a disguise, leaving the boys no money to get home.
